These are dangerous places for both man and beast, Stories about man killers such as the Anaconda, the huge Estuary crocodiles and the Piranha are legend.  Most animals have to drink of course and it is when their thirst forces them to the water’s edge that they are most vulnerable.  Watch any animal, or bird for that matter, approaching water and you will witness the hesitancy and alertness with which they, with good reason , slake their thirst.  Ready for flight at the first underwater movement or hint of danger, they are only too aware of the threat the water holds. Prey animals and birds usually approach water in groups and flocks under the assumption that there is safety in numbers. The colourful waterfowl in the puzzle picture often fall prey to underwater predators in much the same way that a Pike in European waters will take young ducklings.  Kingfishers proliferate in these water wonderlands where many species of fish are to be found.
