The Destruction of Pile, 1978
Originally published in Pile: Petals from St Klaed’s Computer, by Brian W. Aldiss and Mike Wilks
In this drawing artist Mike Wilks depicts, at the moment of its crumbling, the fantasy world of Pile, an extravagant place devoid of nature and its grace.
Wilks began writing and illustrating books in 1975. Soon after came Pile: Petals from St Klaed’s Computer, which paired Wilks’s intricate images with a pome by science fiction writer Brian W. Aldiss. Wilks rocketed to fame following publication of The Ultimate Alphabet in 1986, also publishing The Weather works, The Ultimate Spot-the-difference Book, The Ultimate Noah’s Ark, and more before establishing himself as a novelist with the Mirrorscape Trilogy, a fantasy adventure series.
Thoughtfully conceived and engagingly intricate, Pomegranate’s interlocking jigsaw puzzles combine superb colour reproduction, stunning and unusual images, and sturdy construction to delight generations of novice and veteran puzzle solvers alike. With subjects ranging from fine art, nature, and architecture to humour, the metaphysical, and more, Pomegranate puzzles offer something for everyone.
