Tom Mackie – Meteora, Greece 1000 Piece Puzzle
‘Wonders of the World’ – The World’s most Beautiful Jigsaw Puzzle
METEORA, GREECE
Meteora literally means “middle of the sky” or “in the heavens above”. Between the 14th and 16th centuries, 20 monasteries were perched high up on the rocks, with the only access by long ladders and baskets. Today only 6 remain and bridges have been built to access the monasteries.
As I stood overlooking Roussanou Monastery, I marvelled how this ancient building coul have been constructed centuries ago without the aid of modern building technology. I waited until the light threw the massive standstone cliff behind the monastery into shadow to give the building more prominence.
