I have always been inspired by the paintings of famous indigenous artist, Albert Namatjira.  I was fascinated by his depiction of great white ghost gums in stark contrast with the rich, red earth of the outback.  I had been taking photos in this area for many years – always trying to get the right perspective.  Then one day I found this resilient ghost gum clinging to a reef of red rock.  Once I had found this location, I visited on many occasions until I finally got the light and conditions that I was hoping for. To me this image is quintessential Australia and I offer it as a tribute to our great indigenous artists who have a profound connection with their land
